myWindow.document.write ("1# Spend a long time at the beach in Olu Deniz before you consider going up the mountain to fly. Watch the landings carefully and look at where there are wide open spaces on the sand. Walk the whole beach in front of the town and look at the ‘obstacles’. Note the big Turkish flag on the wooden lookout tower in the middle of the beach because it is visible from a 1000ft and will give you the wind direction for landing. Don’t blindly follow another pilot because I have seen quite a few downwind landings! Do not follow the tandems and try to come in over the town and don’t try to land on the concrete unless you are very sure that you have the skills. (Sorry but when I had 2 hours I know that I could not land within 100m of a given spot. Down to about 50 now!).

") ;
       myWindow.document.write ("2# Lots of companies offer to take you up from Olu Deniz but you will feel very alone and vulnerable if they just dump you at the top. The people selling the lifts will not necessarily be the ones going up. If you can get the offer of advice or guidance then do.

") ;
       myWindow.document.write ("3# The 1700m take off (on a sharp left hand bend before the very top) is very dangerous for the unwary. Watch quite a few take offs and don’t rush yourself. If there is a wind blowing then look carefully to the right. On the highest point there is a windsock. If it is pointing across the takeoff then the real wind is blowing from Fethiye and it is very dangerous. Although the wind may blow up the take off as thermals cycle through it can be a recipe for disaster. This is where you need advice. If you see any sign of a wind from the right and if you see any sign of canopies taking off and then collapsing as they come out of the wind shadow, caused by the higher ground to the right, then enjoy the view and get a truck back down. Do not believe that just because somebody takes off then it must be safe. Lots and lots of accidents happen here.

") ;
       myWindow.document.write ("4# If you go to the very top (depends on wind direction) then it is safer in some respects but you may take off away from Olu Deniz and the sea. You then fly back down the road until you have plenty of clearance above the mountain (it drops away) and then fly out over the 1700m take off but a couple of hundred feet higher.

") ;
       myWindow.document.write ("5# If you go to the 800m take off the truck will go along the coast road from Olu Deniz. This is a safer take off for a low airtime pilot. The choice depends upon the wind direction. This take off is used when the top of Babadag is too windy. From here you have plenty of height to make the beach, but don’t squander it when you have little experience from which to judge things. This is especially true if the wind is off shore at Olu Deniz.

") ;
       myWindow.document.write ("6# Enjoy the views. If it is smooth and you want photos then wait until you are well away from the mountain. Make sure any camera is tied on and can be quickly and safely put away long before you get near to landing.

") ;
       myWindow.document.write ("7# Avoid flying too far out over the sea. People have been seduced in to going further than they can get back from. Look for any signs of an off shore breeze and take account of it.

") ;
       myWindow.document.write ("8# Practice flying along the line of the beach whilst you still have 1000ft or more. Look at your drift against the beach because the wind will be on or off shore. Look for the big flag and watch others landing. Confirm your plan for landing still looks good. You may have to fly along the beach with a wind at almost 90 degrees and then turn in to wind for the last few feet. Do not feel that you must do a very long straight glide perfectly in to wind, all the way to landing. This may not be possible. Hopefully your earlier observations gave you the chance to plan this before you went up the mountain.

") ;
       myWindow.document.write ("9# Avoid landing in the sea, or even near enough to drop the canopy in the surf. This is really, really important. I have seen 3 people do it and I haven’t been there often!

") ;
       myWindow.document.write ("10# Have a pee before you go up the mountain and again before you take off. If you need to then take Diacalm, Imodium or Arretes or whatever well before you go up the mountain. It is a long journey up (40mins) and a minimum 25min flight. Add in all the waiting and watching and you will hopefully get the picture. Don’t spoil a flight because of it!

") ;
	   myWindow.document.write ("Hope that this helps. If you come to the AGM on 13th March then I’m sure that lots of advice will be proffered, and some of it may be good!

") ;
